About Us

My Caviary was officially established in 2005. My passion for these little guys began when I was 16 and has only grown since then. I have been raising cavies since 2001 but began showing in late 2005.

Dynasty's Goal

Here at Dynasty my focus is on the Peruvian, Texel, Coronet, Silkie, & Teddy breeds in dilute broken (rainbow) colors. I use the ARBA standard of perfection as a guideline in my program and hope to continue to produce "Best in Show" animals. My intention as a breeder is in the perfection of the breeds I raise for the purpose of exhibition and the occasional family pet.
I've been lucky to meet some of the East coast's best breeders. I have also been lucky in past shows placing "Best of Breed" and "Best of Variety" in many different shows in 2006. My very first show I won "Best in Show"!

trophies-6

Just some of the many trophies and ribbons that have been awarded to my pigs.

BIS Peruvian boar "06 (melancholy)

A look back at one of my first BIS winners. Melancholy was a red/white peruvian boar that took BIS his very first show! Needless to say I was extremely pleased with his placement.

RIS Texel Sow "08 (persephone)

Another superb little sow Persephone took RIS. She exhibits super type and excellent curl all over her body even over the shoulders! A very well deserved achievement indeed.

Bella takes BIS March 2009!

Bella is my most recent BIS winner! Although she has received many BOB wins I was thrilled when she took BIS at her very last show appearance. "Going out with a Bang" as the saying goes and that she did.

RIS with Neveah

Neveah is my latest winner. She has won many BOB's and in her finale she took RIS under Judge Don Petersen in May of '09 in Columbia South Carolina. Hopefully she will do just as good in the breeding pen as she has done on the show circuit.

Housing

My caviary is an extension of my home and is climate-controlled throughout the year. I also have ventilation for air circulation which is important when raising animals in enclosed spaces. I feel it is best that they are protected in an enclosed indoor area as here in Georgia the summers are extremely hot and winters are harsh and cold. Here are some pictures of my caviary.

Caviary

A look back to the early stages of building my caviary. The first picture shows the completed framing of the room. In the second picture you can see the almost finished room. It would soon be finished with trim around the window and base boards around the unfinished edges of the wall.

Caviary before Quality Cages

Caviary before Quality Cages

A look back at how Dynasty Caviary looked before I invested in a more commercial cage set-up. Although practical and much cheaper than commercial cages this set up just didnt work well for me. The cages were much more time consuming to clean.

Our Caviary

A more recent look at how the new commercial set up saves space and allows me to have more room for more cavies. Cleaning is a breeze with the new cages. Unlike the homemade cages I had before that took more time and energy to deal with. I just can't say enough about Quality Cages.

Care

My animals are on a good quality feed and hay is readily available. I feed Purina Lab-Diet as I can purchase this brand of feed within a week or so of being milled. As far as hay goes I usually feed whatever looks the freshest, usually orchard/alfalfa mix or coastal bermuda hay. I use kiln dried pine shavings for my breeding cages & equine fresh pine pellets for my show cages.

Word of Thanks

I would like to thank Jennifer Petersen, owner of Galatea Caviary, for letting me take over her texel project. I really appreciate everything she has done for me & am truly grateful for our friendship! Thanks for being a mentor!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or to inquire about purchasing from Dynasty!
